The former Degrassi Junior High actor is also featured in Rolling Stone’s “Artists to Watch,” where he discusses his deal with Universal/Motown, which purportedly gives him creative control, ownership of his publishing and $2 Million up front. “They’ll say this is the worst deal in music history as far as the label goes…probably one of the best deals for me at the moment,” Drake told Rolling Stone.

Drake is currently home from the Young Money tour, recovering from torn ACL, MCL and LCL and beginning “the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album.”

The mag hits newsstands nationwide on August 18.

Keri Hilson covers Complex Magazine

Singer/songwriter Keri Hilson covers the latest issue of Complex Magazine and speaks on the album, working behind the scenes, growing up well off and more. Peep some snippets:

On her debut album and its sales:
Keri: It’s doing very well. Especially given this industry—even though the business is hurting, the album is still achieving its projections. I’m proud of the album, but you can never expect how the world will receive you or your music.

On her first check for song-writing:
Keri: My very first check was for Ruben Studdard’s first album, like $25,000. And my family was like, “What the hell is this? This is what you’ve been doing? Who the hell brings home a check like this?” They’re thinking $2,500 here and there, whatever. It was crazy.

On Rihanna’s and Cassie’s leaked photos:
Keri: My first reaction was “Thank God I never did that.” I never let anybody take any naked pictures of me, so there would be none. I was always one of those over-paranoid people, convinced that someday that I would be living the dream, so as early as middle or high school I wouldn’t do certain things, just in case. READ MORE.

Keri is definitely doing her thing right now and plus the girl got so much swag. Check out her in Fabolous’ new video “Everyday, Everything, Everywhere” in one of my previous posts.

Usher covers Vegas Magazine

Usher is the first male on the cover of Vegas Magazine in its six years in production. In the mag, Usher talks about his new fragrance Usher VIP (his third fragrance with Elizabeth Arden), recording in Vegas, his new studio album, MONSTER, and more. Here’s an excerpt:

rying to pin down what Usher has been up to lately could take hours of interviews and a river of ink. At the moment, he’s set to release his sixth studio album, Monster, as well as the third fragrance in his collection, VIP. Then there’s his philanthropy work and his eponymous foundation (through which 20 teens will get to direct the first video off Monster). On top of all that, he’s the father of two young sons, one-and-a-half-year-old Usher Raymond V and seven-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond. (”That’s all I need, a daughter to make me superweak,” he jokes about adding to his brood.) In June, he announced his separation from his wife of two years, Tameka Foster.

With this much going on in his life, it’s no wonder that Usher sequestered himself and his crew in Las Vegas to produce Monster. Usher and his team, including music superstars Pharrell, Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, rented out the third floor of the Palms Resort Casino, then made a daily commute to the resort’s in-house recording studio, where everyone from Elton John to Mary J Blige to Axl Rose has laid down tracks. “Vegas is good livin’, a product of positive energy, upward thinking,” Usher says. “Every time we’d go out to a club, there would be motivation there. [Recording in Vegas] allowed me to open my mind and just be creative and think outside the box.”

Kanye West covers Vibe Magazine’s February Issue

Here’s the first look at Kanye West’s first ever solo VIBE cover.  Looking rather serious I might add…maybe because his barber decided not to show uo for the shoot. Anyway, here are a few excerpts from the mag:

Kanye on being deemed a violent person because of his paparazzi experience…
“I haven’t done anything violent. They make it seem like I actually went and hit the paparazzi. I haven’t. I was restrained. I’m good at restraining myself from committing violent acts. I know how to control my temper. That one paparazzo made it a bigger deal. I just put my hand up and he felt like he had more right to my personal space than I did. I put my hand up to stop him from shooting me.”

Kanye on 808’s being his best album…..
“I do think it’s my best album to date. No, I actually know this is my best album to date. Do I think it will be my best album ever? No, Ill improve. Do I think there are mistakes in it? Yes. There has to be. I’m a human being. But I think it surpasses Graduation. These 12 tracks are going to resonate more than any 12 tracks of any album this year.”

T.I. on the cover of Rap-Up Magazine

T.I. Cover

The King, Mr. Clifford Harris, covers the Winter 08-09 cover of Rap-Up Magazine with brand spankin’ new photos and exclusive interviews. In the issue T.I. reflects on the biggest year of his career, his impending jail sentence, the effect it will have on his family, and how the King always gets his way.. It is a double cover issue with Christina Milian on the other cover, but she’s not that important to me, so the kid gets left behind.

On how his children are going to deal with his time in prison: “My oldest is 12—she understands. She’s strong and smart. The three weeks I was in, before I got to come home, she said to me, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll hold things down ’til you get back.’ I’m more worried about how my boys are going to deal.”

On what it would take for him to be conceited like Kanye West: “Selling a billion. At about a billion, I think I’d be pretty hard to deal with.”

On winning awards: “No disrespect to Kanye, but that kinda stuff just don’t mean nothing to me. Whether or not I win an award, I mean that’s nice, but at the end of the day I understand that I’m a man. What being a man means to me is not defined by an award or an amount of records sold.”
